When he is not busy enjoying time with his family, helping patients, or exploring the outdoors, he enjoys writing books. With his busy schedule it is hard to believe that he has found time to write 70 published books, including clinical textbooks, trade books for the general public, instructional books and even books exploring the outdoors! He has written over three hundred published articles and produced over 150 lectures and blogs. Many of his educational and motivational talks can be found on www.skindrrob.com.
Dr. Norman has had many showings of his photography throughout the world and has written and co-produced more than 45 films. He has also written and co-produced four blues albums. He plays the harmonica and has performed at Ferguson Hall at the Straz Center and with many noted musicians.
His book, Reading the Florida Landscape, offers all levels of nature enthusiasts an opportunity to improve their skills and increase their appreciation of Florida’s wonderful outdoors. Great photographs by Dr. Norman and maps enhance the reading pleasure, and diverse and exciting narratives on Florida nature are included. Using interviews with conservation scientists and historical and current case studies, the book blends the skills and knowledge gained from the author’s experiences as a physician and an advanced Florida Master Naturalist to discuss how to identify, or perhaps diagnose, actions and events that have influenced the structure and function of Florida environments. It encourages the reader to identify evidence of land and water use that has occurred in the past to better understand how these have influenced the health and function of ecosystems in the present.
Dr. Norman, along with Richard Kern, created a documentary film Reading the Florida Landscape based on the book. You can view it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgdGQFjMhVQ
