Girl Scouts isn’t just about cookies. Girl Scouts teaches girls how to be leaders and encourages them to make the world a better place. One way Girl Scouts does this is through the Girl Scouts Gold Award. The Gold Award is earned through a take-action project where girls learn to make a difference. Sarah Lucker is a local Girl Scout from Lutz working on her Gold Award Project. When the recent tornadoes hit two elementary schools in Oklahoma, Sarah knew she needed to help the students there. She contacted a guidance counselor in Moore,
Oklahoma and asked how she could help. The result is the following list of items which she is collecting to send to Oklahoma:
• Over-the-ear headphones
• Tissues
• Scissors (round and shape ended)
• Colored markers (thin and wide)
• Recess games (cards, board games, etc.
ages 5-11)
• Clorox wipes
• Baggies (gallon size)
• Paint sets and brushes
• Play-Doh
Several local businesses are supporting her by sponsoring drop boxes to collect the donations. You can help by dropping off a donation to any of these businesses from August 1st through August 22nd.
