The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind (LVIB) has received a generous grant from Suncoast Credit Union, Florida’s largest credit union, to help children who are visually impaired learn skills needed for independence.
“Every child deserves a fulfilling educational experience and we want to do what we can to make that a reality. Developing life skills is so important as they are a fundamental part of life,” said Cindy Helton, Executive Director, Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. “Supporting LVIB is a natural fit for Suncoast, as we both share the similar goal of promoting the education, health, and well-being of children in our communities.”
Since its inception in 1990, the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation has raised and donated over $32 million to help provide a better future for the children of our community.
Each time a Suncoast member uses their debit or credit card, two cents are donated to the Foundation to support local initiates, like LVIB.
Suncoast Credit Union puts members first and enriches our local communities. The credit union offers lower rates on loans, higher earnings on deposits and more fee-free services so you can live your best life. Learn more and apply for membership at suncoastcreditunion.com.
The Children’s Program at LVIB provides daily living skills training and other supports that help children compensate for vision loss so they are able to fully participate at home, school, and in the community. It also begins preparing them for future employment by developing the soft and hard skills needed, such as communication, socialization, self-advocacy, and technology skills. The program works to create a solid foundation for the well-being of children who are visually impaired, so they have normal, happy childhoods and grow into productive, happy adults.
LVIB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which operates in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus. The mission of the LVIB is to educate, empower, and employ people who are visually impaired and blind. LVIB receives partial funding therefore must fundraise to meet the demand for programs and services. We are so grateful to the Suncoast Credit Union for providing this grant and for all the good work they do in community. According to Stefanie Pontlitz, “The Suncoast Credit Union has come through for the children in a very tough year for fundraising. With their grant, we can now pour our efforts into the program and give the children a bright future.” Learn more at www.lvib.org/programs/childrens-program.Visit suncoastcreditunion.com
