Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation Granted Keep Pinellas Beautiful $25,000 to install Seven WATERGOAT Marine Debris Capturing Devices in Pinellas County, FL.
[Pinellas County, Florida] (Monday, May 24, 2021) – Keep Pinellas Beautiful (KPB), your local Keep America Beautiful affiliate, is proud to announce a $25,000.00 donation from Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation to implement a WATERGOAT debris capturing system at seven locations in Pinellas County, Florida. On Monday, May 24,2021 @10:00 am, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, along with Pinellas County Commissioner, Charlie Justice and St. Petersburg Councilwoman Gina Driscoll will be sharing information about our WATERGOAT Adoption initiative and thanking our partners and sponsors at a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony, at the Harborage Marina, 1110 3rd St S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
According to the EPA, over 80% of litter that originates on land ends up in our waterways. The WATERGOAT was created to capture the “trashy trash” that enters our waterways via street litter through the storm drain system. Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation works with community members, nonprofit organizations, and event organizers to support their efforts to maintain healthy, safe, and sustainable coastal beaches in Florida. They are proponents of the WATERGOAT since it traps the debris before it has the chance to enter our larger waterways.
“We are truly grateful to Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation and WATERGOAT for providing the resources to bring the WATERGOAT Adoption program here to Keep Pinellas Beautiful. KPB engages thousands of community members each year in Pinellas County to help clean up and green up our public lands on a regular basis. The WATERGOAT initiative will be another avenue for volunteers to assist with sustaining the beauty and health of our local environment here in Pinellas County”, said Pat DePlasco, KPB’s Executive Director.
