Hi, my name is Harley! I went to GPS Character Camp where you learn about characteristics. It’s for 3rd-5th grade young adults, and I was the exception. My teachers were Mr. Jeff and Mrs. Debbie Cain. The characteristics that we learned were PR for proactive responsibility, CD for can-do, TD for talents discovered, V for vision, MR for meaningful relationships, and TLC for teams love collaboration.
The way to a great future is a straight line with characteristics of stepping stones, but we all have distractions such as iPhones, iPads, iTouches, games, foods, and friends, and that makes big loops and curves on our path. What you can do is stop being addicted so it straightens up your path.
And for our activities, one of them was, “Heroine and Hero in the Mirror.” It’s where you write down your successes and qualities and you put your picture in the mirror and write some of the many qualities that you have. I provided energetic, supportive, kind, mature, and loyal. Another activity was the vision board and we write down what we want to become someday. Someday, I want to become a hospital nurse.
We had guest speakers who spoke about their successes. One was Tyrone Keys, a former Tampa Bay Bucs and Chicago Bears football player who had won the Super Bowl. We took a picture with the Super Bowl ring on my finger. The camp was a week long and the hours were 9-4 and they provided lunch. On Friday, we had our graduation. I was the youngest graduate ever in GPS history!
