“Why Is It Called That?”
Our speaker at the July meeting will be long-time member and bromeliad grower Alton Lee, whose talk is titled “Why Is It Called That?” Alton Lee explained the origins of the names for twelve of the more commonly grown bromeliad genera. He states that most bromeliads are named to honor discovers or botanists while others are composed of Latin or Greek words that are descriptive of some features of the genus. Alton holds his audience’s attention during his lectures and delights his audience by adding bits of humor and new approaches to learning about bromeliads.
The public is invited to the meetings of the Bromeliad Guild of Tampa Bay, a not-for-profit corporation, at no charge. Monthly meeting include a door prize, Show & Tell of Blooming Bromeliads, Program, Raffle, Sales and Refreshments. For more information, call (813) 961-1475.
