Every May, other clerks of the court celebrate the necessary work of jury duty for a week. Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller Paula O’Neil figures after a week, we’re just getting warmed up.
Accordingly, each Monday this month (and the Tuesday after Memorial Day) when the Clerk welcomes new jury pools, prospects will be greeted by Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam (Operations Supervisors Samantha Nash and Edward Dwyer, respectively) at the courthouses in Dade City and New Port Richey (also respectively).
The attached pictures show Lady Liberty serving breakfast cookies and Uncle Sam preparing breakfast popcorn, embracing extra duties that serve as tokens of the esteem with which Clerk’s Office teammates regard citizens reporting to perform their constitutionally-mandated duty.
Besides cookies, extra features this month extend to exotic toppings for Monday popcorn (including kettle corn, nacho cheddar, caramel, and chocolate) and syrups for coffee and tea (caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and hazelnut).
To help jurors occupy idle time, the Clerk is offering adult coloring pages and colored pencils, as well as jury-themed crossword puzzles and mazes. The agency is also presenting combination pens with touchscreen styluses, with “Thank you for your service” emblazoned along the sides. The Clerk’s Office anticipates hosting nearly 1,000 prospective jurors total in May.
