Hi there! My name is Harley, writer of the monthly Kidz Korner column.
At my co-op, there’s a small class about knitting that I’m a part of. It’s my second year doing that with our wonderful teacher, Mrs. Amanda. She is super nice and always helps when we need it! One day, towards the beginning of the school year, she asked us to knit a large square and told us that – this was crazy – it would turn into either a chicken or a pumpkin! All five of the students were like, “What?” But we began the lengthy process – it takes a while, whether you’re a newb at knitting or not – of knitting a square. Within a few weeks of careful work, the majority of us had completed a quadrilateral shape. But the mind-blowing part was how Mrs. Amanda demonstrated how to fold up the square and sew it. Today, my project is complete, and his name is Nugg (short for Nugget). Making Nugg out of a square instead of trying to knit a cylinder saved me a lot of time and trouble.
When you listen to someone who knows more than you about a specific topic and you do what they advise, you may not understand right away.
Maybe a knitting teacher will ask you to knit a square, or the Lord will ask you to move your livelihood across the world. But – eventually, in God’s perfect timing – it will turn out to be something more amazing than you dreamed. There’s a chance you won’t see the results, but they are there!
A lot of times, my mom will put something, like a shelf, together without the instructions. Then, she’ll look at the instructions and realize that she did something wrong, and she has to take it apart. This is life to a tee! We can make decisions and go about our days thinking that life is going great, and then we look back and realize there are some things we need to fix. So, let’s ask God for help and wisdom!
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)
And, by the way, you should try out knitting. It’s an excellent pastime and a great present hobby.
See you next month!
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
