Hey there! My name is Harley, and this is the monthly Kidz Korner article.
I’m a part of Idlewild Student Worship Co. On Sunday afternoons, we practice praise and worship songs from all sorts of Christian music genres, some even in Spanish!
Last year was my sixth-grade year, and I made some of my best friends ever in Worship Co. The choir (which I’m a part of) and band perform at many fantastic events throughout the year, like football and soccer award ceremonies and Spanish church services. But every summer, a few students go on a mission trip (last year’s was in Fort Myers). And by a few, I mean that 25 students came this year!
The trip was from June 14-21, but a lot of preparation went into it a long time beforehand, like passport pictures, packing parties, and setting alarms for 1:45am the day of. Due to narrowly missing a shuttle that came every ten minutes, my family was the last to arrive at the airport, which is a miracle in and of itself with so many teenagers going! But the first day, a Friday, was definitely a success. We topped it off with a concert at a girls’ group home and then a pool party back at the mission house.
On Saturday and Sunday (Sábado y Domingo en Español), we were at a church called IBO, where we quickly developed amigoships! I was part of a small group of girls – American and Hispanic – who played piano for probably two hours on Saturday after an awards ceremony for the church’s music academy! We taught each other lots of words in our languages, too.
Most of the rest of our trip we spent a few hours north, in Santiago. We got to run VBS at an orphanage called Red de Misericordia, which was an amazing facility with amazing people. The kids who were aged 5-12 got to participate in games, music, dance, crafts, Bible study, and more for three days. Our team also watched and held the babies and played soccer with the teenagers, who vanquished us.
Overall, the trip was a win-win, and God had His hand on it all! I can’t wait to see where God leads us next year.
And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God. Romans 8:28a
