Hello! I’m a seventh-grader named Harley who gets the privilege of writing this column for you all every month.
If you read last month’s article, you’ll remember Worship Co., my student choir and orchestra. StudentServe also falls under Idlewild Student Ministry, but it’s a much smaller group than all the kids in Worship Co. You’ll see over a hundred students at Worship Co. on a Sunday afternoon, but there are only about 35 people on the entire StudentServe team. Within StudentServe, there are four sections:
- Welcome, which greets everyone and checks in first-time guests
- Creative, which runs games in Middle and High School services and creates posts for social media
- Media
- and Production
In sixth and the beginning of seventh grade, I was on the Welcome Team. Now, I’m getting started with the Creative Team. They’re both excellent opportunities to make a difference in how the Idlewild Student Ministry runs! However, no matter what team you’re on, fostering community and fellowship (Translation: upping the vibe) is the responsibility of everyone on StudentServe.
As we’ve seen so often in our student ministry, the simple act of being hospitable to someone, like inviting them to sit with you, can lead to them coming back and getting to know more about and grow closer to Jesus! Invite someone to church next Sunday or Wednesday! Showing them Jesus is the nicest thing you can do.
So, I encourage you to get plugged in at a church and serve! It’s one of the most gratifying things you can do.
Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:9
