Hi! I’m Harley, writer of the monthly Kidz Korner column. Recently, my homeschool group held a Talent Show, Show and Tell event for the kids, who were all pre-K through high school, to show others their God-given talents and what they’ve worked hard and diligently on. Mother suggested that my crocheting should be in the Show and Tell. I doubted there were enough creations to fill up an ENTIRE half of a table, but while sifting through the knick-knacks, there were a lot.
When you do many small things, like crocheting bracelets and dragons (even though no one could tell they were dragons) or helping someone out, and you don’t think it matters much, it often adds up to something great. When I first started crocheting, my creations weren’t fabulous. The original plan was to make a quilt out of different yarns, but I don’t know WHAT I was thinking.
Many of the pieces weren’t even squares or rectangles at all. They were more like rhombuses, parallelograms, or not polygons at all. So the scraps were donated to the Salvation Army, where they shred them and use them as stuffing for pillows. It benefits a great cause, and it helps me learn how to crochet useful projects!
Anyway, after watching the talent show on the big day, which included guitar and piano performances and a stop-motion video, the Show and Tell began. At first, it seemed like other people had more interesting displays. (Examples: 3-D printing, a rabbit, a trifold showing someone’s house fixer-upper).
Do you see what I mean? But God cares about the heart. Mostly my visitors were older ladies and I had a great time listening to them, even though I didn’t reach my daily step goal due to standing beside a stationary table for two hours. God uses everything for good, and He’ll teach you lessons, many that may benefit others as well. Bye! See you next month!
