Hi! My name is Harley, and I have written monthly articles for this amazing newspaper for over three years. This month’s topic in the Kidz Corner will be Camp Deep Waters.
Camp Deep Waters is a camp run by American Heritage Girls in Leesburg, Florida. It lasts for one week in June and is enjoyable and exhausting. We shake ourselves awake at 7:15 and plop down in our bunks at 10:00pm, after four one-hour classes, one-hour meals, free times, chapel, and activities! This year’s camp theme was being shipwrecked in sin (with plenty of skits in the chapel), and at the end of the week, the Lord came to save us. We learned about our identity in Christ.
Each girl had four one-hour classes, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The classes included Swim, Leadership, Marine Biology, Needle Arts, and more! The classes I had were Outdoor Skills, Textile Arts, Entrepreneurship, and World Languages. We had a workbook for each class, and we learned a lot. At the end of the week, we earned badges for each class to put on our AHG uniforms.
At camp, I signed up for a leadership position, and I was part of the team of Mail Coordinators. We had to organize mail every day at lunch and hand it out. It was awesome.
Free time was awesome! We could swim in the pool, or play GaGa ball at the gym, buy snacks at the Snack Shack, or chill in our cabins. My friends and I played a game we made up that involved a lot of orphans and hilarious lunacy.
The food was wonderful for having to cook in bulk for 70 girls. We had cinnamon rolls, hot dogs, pizza, and Sloppy Joe’s.
To wrap it up, Camp Deep Waters was incredible. Even better, it was Christian, and it taught us that we are Created, Protected, Resilient, Loved, and Rescued. Ciao! See you next month!
