In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the organs are associated with emotional feelings. Negative emotions create an imbalance in the respective organs which ultimately can cause physical illness.
Grief or sadness that is not released may be an underlying cause of colds, allergies, or asthma according to TCM principles. Long-term anger can be an underlying cause of dry red eyes, headaches, or tendonitis for example.
Each organ group is associated with different emotions:
• Spleen/Stomach/Pancreas
o Worry, excessive focus on a topic, and being in your head too much
• Lung/Large Intestine
o Grief, sadness, and detachment
• Liver/Gall Bladder
o Anger, bitterness, resentment, frustration, irritability
• Heart/Small Intestine
o Lack of enthusiasm, depression, mental restlessness, insomnia, and despair
• Kidney/Urinary Bladder
o Fear, weak willpower, insecure, isolated
TCM identifies 12 energy paths throughout the body called meridians that are associated with organs. One way to ensure the energy or chi flows smoothly is with acupuncture on specific points.
These points can also be worked on during a reflexology session. I’m also working on all of the organ reflex points. So, in addition to balancing the physical body, from a TCM view, emotions can be balanced during a session as well. Reflexology truly affects the body, mind, and spirit, all without the aid of drugs or chemicals. This, accompanied by the power of prayer, can help a person get back into balance and better health.
