With the new school year beginning soon, it’s important to include journaling to the agenda. Each day, the children can draw something meaningful to them, something new that they learned, or allow them to choose a topic of their choice that they want to illustrate. This allows each child to express themselves through their drawings. The children can also share their journals with their classmates, teachers, and parents.
This will allow each child to explain the importance of their drawings and enhance their communication skills in the process. Including the use of journals can also help in a child’s development, which can be seen through the advancement of the child’s drawings and explanations throughout the year.
Another step that can be added to journaling would be to have them add letters, strings of letters, stickers, words or sentences to each page that represents their artwork. This helps the child learn to write, and better help them express the meaning of their drawings. By drawing, writing, and sharing their journals, children can significantly improve developmentally and can be as creative as they want in the process. Happy journaling and enjoy the upcoming school year!
