Hi my name is Harley and this month we are talking about a company called Wigs for Kids. But first imagine clicking “Behind the Scenes” on the remote—click!— and now it’s doing that circle going round and round. So some kids have cancer. Sometimes when you have cancer, you lose your hair. So Wigs for Kids makes wigs for kids. But they use real hair. So people cut their hair and mail it to Wigs for Kids. So now imagine pressing the back button and pressing “Play”. I donated my hair. Ok. Rewind. Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom.
My hair was 18+ inches long. So I decided to donate it because I want kids to have wigs. Fast forward. Ugh. TV’s broken. Oh no—Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!
Donating your hair is really fun, but that’s not the point. I want kids to have wigs. Seriously, some kids actually have cancer, and they lose their hair. So people need to provide wigs.
I watched a video about one of the people who donated their hair and one of the people who received their hair. First a girl named Maria cut her fourteen inch long blond hair. Then she mailed it to a lab. Then they measured the other girl’s scalp and made a mold. Then Kenzie-that’s her name-picked what color hair she wanted and what length. So she chose long blond and they took all the long blond hair and put it in her pile. They stitched the hair onto the mold they had made. Eventually she got her wig. It is an interesting process, how they make the wigs.
I can’t imagine having cancer. It’s terrible. It’s horrible. It’s bad. I can’t think of any other words in the English language to describe it. I want to help kids that have cancer. I want to raise awareness for other people to donate hair as well. But I also want to spread the Gospel so people have eternal life and Jesus. Hope is what helps us get through our life here on earth.
