COVID-19 and Your Pets IMPORTANT UPDATE
Sunshine Animal Hospital is closely monitoring health bulletins regarding the COVID-19 virus to learn the latest developments and their potential impacts on veterinary staff, patients and clients, and we are closely following American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and CDC guidelines.
There have been several cases in the news where two tigers in the Bronx zoo and a dog in North Carolina tested positive for COVID-19. It is believed that the tigers contracted the virus from an infected zoo keeper and the dog from it’s owner who had tested positive for the virus. In both cases it has been reported that the animals are doing well.
It is important to note that infectious disease experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organizations agree there is NO evidence at this point to indicate that pets can spread COVID-19 to people.
Until more information is known about this novel coronavirus, however, it is recommended that anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep contact with their pets to a minimum.
