Happy Valentine’s Day! My name is Harley, and today were going to talk a little about the origin of Valentine’s Day.
Saint Valentine was a priest who performed the ceremonies for young soldiers‘ weddings. He performed these ceremonies in secret. The king had him thrown in prison because he wanted his soldiers to stay in the army. The reason he wanted single men in his army was because that married men only cared about their wives and children, and being so focused on their wives and children would get them to not think that much about the war. Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and sent her a card and signed it, your Valentine.
Valentine’s Day today as seen as a celebration of romance, often with giving cards and candy and just loving each other. Kinds of events can include daddy-daughter dates and parties. But even with all these gifts there is a Valentine that is the greatest: Jesus. Jesus is the greatest because he died on the cross for us. Even you people who don’t have any family or friends remember Jesus is your Valentine and He always loves you.
Ways to spend time with Jesus include reading your Bible, going to church, and praying. But the ultimate thing is accepting Jesus in your life. We are supposed to confess our sins and believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that he died and rose again for you and me.
