Here’s what I believe God has motivated me to do. Remember when the Roe vs. Wade decision was made in 1973? I didn’t have any influence in this matter. In fact, I didn’t watch television much and I’m not sure if that even passed. But I’m in a position now where God has given me an influence, and I believe that he’s called me to marshall his people together and to do something about this. When I was at Mac Hammond Church right after the Supreme Court legalized this, I was praying and saying “God, what can we do?”
So I just have to say, I believe God inspired an idea to do some things, so let me share with you real quick what I’m doing, and I’m going to ask you to be a part of it. I sat down and wrote this thing that I call a “Declaration of Dependence upon God and his Holy Bible” and it is specifically a take-off on the Declaration of Independence.
I believe that, praising God, we can because we have a system that was set up by our forefathers that will allow us to redress grievances. As a matter of fact, you know some of you may be familiar with this, but in 1850 I believe it was, that the United States was just expanding into these western territories and the South had allowed slavery but the North had opposed slavery ever since the founding of this nation. Not to go back in history, but a lot of people think that the United States embraced slavery and that is not true.
In the North, there were abolitionists the entire time. In the 1780’s there were blacks elected to be governors of the northern states and mayors of cities. It has never been a hundred percent, but as the states began to expand westward, the southern states were trying to make them all approve slavery. So a person filed a lawsuit that as an American that this was wrong to impress them as slaves and it went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court made a ruling in the Dred Scott case that a black person was not human but was property and therefore they did not have the same constitutional rights that other people have.
So Lincoln and others campaigned on that basis against this and defied the Supreme Court. Lincoln even said that the Supreme Court has no ability to make laws and that the Supreme Court was totally wrong when they made this decision and allowed slavery in all of the states, and so they fought over this and the states’ rights that Lincoln abolish slavery and basically just defied the Supreme Court ruling and overturned it and said you have no power to make laws nor do you have the power to enforce laws.
Only the legislature can do that, and they went against them and signed this Emancipation Proclamation completely in defiance of the Supreme Court and overturned it, and we can still do that stuff today. If our legislature was to stand up today and say this is wrong because the balance of powers between the three branches of government, we could stop something. But there has to be some public outcry against this, and I believe we have a lot of outcry that is individual but it isn’t being heard collectively. So as I was sitting down praying for this, the Lord just led me to write what I call a Declaration of Dependence on God and it’s a take-off on the Declaration of Independence.
